LGBTQIA+ Legislative Milestones

The NSW Labor Government is committed to advancing equality, reflected in recent legislative wins that strengthen protections and rights for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

A few recent achievements include;

- Significant amendments to out-dated equality laws that were once barriers to gender and sexual identity recognition.

- Banning harmful and damaging LGBTQ+ conversion practices through laws that prevent forced change or suppression of sexual orientation or gender identity.

- The establishment of the inaugural LGBTIQ+ Advisory Council which aims to work with the Government to provide insights and recommendations on issues affecting LGBTIQ+ communities.

- A formal apology from the Labor Government for the harm and impact of previous legislation, on the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality

These reforms and recognitions aim to continue the efforts of the NSW Labor Government to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents across New South Wales, ensuring that our communities are safe and respectful places for all.
