In the wake of the Bondi Beach attack, the Australian community has broken two new national donation records. Yesterday, close to 50,000 appointments were booked - more than double the previous record and a total of 7,810 donations of blood, plasma and platelets were made across the country.
The need for more blood and plasma donors is ongoing. In the event of a serious trauma event or emergency, up to 100 donations may be needed to save just one life. Particularly, O Negative blood is needed.
With the holiday period approaching, we’re encouraging people to look at making an appointment over the coming weeks, as blood and plasma donations will continue to be needed.
The Lifeblood website, app and call centre are experiencing much higher numbers than usual. We thank people for their patience, and if you can’t get through, please check back again later.
