Save Our Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick

It has been two years since the NSW Government publicly committed to returning cardiac surgery to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. Since then, not a single cardiac surgery has been performed at the hospital.

In their statement from January 2020, the NSW Government also pledged an additional $10 million to provide the equipment and infrastructure required to return cardiac surgery however it remains entirely unclear where that money has been spent or even whether it was made available at all.

The pandemic has highlighted our need for world class health care and the clear failures of the NSW Government. It has been two years since the decision was made to return cardiac surgery to Randwick and all we have seen is two years of complete inaction. The seriously ill children in our community and across NSW deserve the best health services possible, they don’t deserve this indefensible inaction by the NSW Government.

We also know that the Randwick Hospitals – Prince of Wales, The Royal Hospital for Women and the Sydney Children’s Hospital – operate as a united medical precinct. In order to maintain the crucial partnership between the Royal Hospital for Women and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick, cardiac surgery must be available at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. We must ensure that these seriously ill babies are not separated from their mum’s being treated at the Royal.

Our frontline medical staff are exhausted from two years of pandemic mismanagement by this Government, they should not have to spend their remaining time and energy advocating that the Government implement a decision that was made two years ago.

That is why I am continuing to fight to return cardiac surgery to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. You can join the campaign below.
